The C-suite must have a hefty dose of “Builder spirit” — a passion for driving organic growth by delivering differentiated value to customers, a focus on innovation, and an insistence on thinking in years rather than quarters — to stay competitive in a fierce marketplace.

Looking for ways to help others does eventually result in their helping you, but that’s not the real payoff. It cultivates a mindset that not only leads to rewarding relationships but also helps you grow as a person.

Traits that are required to create and communicate a compelling vision require leaders to focus on what is important to their company, their values and their team. 

Especially in a time of so much need, almost everyone feels the pull of generosity. But at the same time, we can’t help but worry that our generosity isn’t really helping the person in the long run.
