Austin Convention Center Hosting May Events

The Austin Convention Center is pleased to announce the return to live, in-person events this month. The center will welcome a total of four events during May, all of which have received approval by Austin Public Health as events which have sufficiently demonstrated the ability to facilitate an elevated dedication towards the department and the city’s efforts to host safe, responsible, risk mitigated events.

“We are passionate about our clients, supporting their success, and restoring Austin’s live meeting and convention industry with the safety of our clients, their attendees and our staff at the forefront of our mission today,” said Trisha Tatro, interim director of the Austin Convention Center Department. “What has set our team apart over the past year is their enthusiasm, dedication and discipline to be as well-trained in preparation for this moment as possible.”

They already held the 2021 Lone Star Regionals 14s – Junior Volleyball tournament from May 1-2 and the 2021 NPC Adela Garcia Classic on May 1, a one-day qualifying event for men and women athletes in bodybuilding, fitness, wellness, bikini and physique.The 2021 Lucky Leaf Expo is scheduled at the Austin Convention Center from May 14 – 15. With an estimated 2,500 attendees, for the two-day event in Austin, this is the second stop for the hemp and CBD expo in Texas. HYROX – The Fitness Competition for Every Body on May 22, is scheduled at the Austin Convention Center, with 400 estimated attendees. This crossfit event and competition is geared towards team and individual athletes, runners, triathletes and obstacle racers.

The Austin Convention Center Department has been given authorization by local health authorities to operate at 25%, and are expecting percentages to rise as the number of vaccinations increase. Events started in April for the Palmer Events Center and in May for the Austin Convention Center. Both facilities are GBAC STAR™ accredited for protocols and procedures for cleaning and disinfection.“Our team’s investment into the future of our clients and their events have uniquely positioned us to confidently welcome events back in a manner which ensures each visitor experiences a level of service and hospitality unmatched in our industry today,” said Tatro.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) or face coverings are required by all individuals at all times while inside ACCD buildings. The City of Austin continues to prioritize employee and public safety, and will maintain all COVID-19 safety protocols, including requiring everyone — employees and public — in a city facility to wear a face mask. The city continues requiring physical distancing and all other hygiene protocols.The Austin Convention Center and Palmer Events Center are operated by the Austin Convention Center Department, a division of the City of Austin. The department will continue to operate under the guidance of the City of Austin, Austin Public Health (APH) and other local health authorities. Under the guidelines, private events or meetings such as receptions or conferences can be held as long as organizers meet APH guidelines.
