Set against the skyline on the banks of the Chicago River, Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel will unveil its $27 million lobby and guest room transformation this April. The newest hotel of the Renaissance Hotel brand is located at 1 West Wacker Drive.
Merging the business of the Loop with the pleasure of State Street and Chicago’s Theater District, Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel invites discovery at every turn. The lobby boasts elements and unique pockets perfect for independent exploration including VIP Club Lounge, Artist Studio, Staytion, Coffee Bar and Library.
The high-low mix design features experiential works of art. Actual CTA bus windows from the early 1900s serve as a gateway into the chef’s display kitchen at Staytion; wallpaper and elevator lobby artwork illustrate the Chicago “L” map; life-size photos and sculptures boast embedded elements allowing people to become a physical part of the artwork themselves; a multi-dimensional mural of pencils depicting a city cab and more. Even the lobby pillars are works of art, each featuring a different part of a taxi cab, which blend together harmoniously to form one single image from certain perspectives.
Located in the middle of the lobby will be the Navigator, a modern twist on the traditional concierge. These dedicated experts uncover spots that only a local would know, and help to facilitate discovery by trading in the usual tourist activities for unique, interactive experiences.
The hotel’s signature Renaissance Presents features live events in the lobby with entertainment from local emerging artists including music, book signings, mixology demos, wine tastings, art exhibits and more.
Each of the 520 guest rooms have all received new soft and select case goods with new tile floors in the guest bathrooms. The 40 suites have been completely renovated boasting unique amenities with marble accents and stunning views of downtown Chicago.
