The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB), in partnership with the Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC), held a Miami Beach Citywide Hotel Task Force meeting Thursday, June 18, at the Royal Palm South Beach Miami. Practicing social distancing guidelines outlined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Task Force discussed new “best practices for hotels” to help Greater Miami & Beaches’ hospitality industry manage reopening after travel closures due to COVID-19 (coronavirus).

Among the takeaways:

  • Each hotel is taking serious measures and adhering to CDC Safety/Sanitation guidelines. The health of their staff and guests are their number one priority.
  • Many hotels have taken additional measures and unique offerings to stay contactless such as mobile apps and high technology thermometer for temperature check without interrupting customers’ experience.
  • Hotel occupancy is picking up slowly and overall business outlook is encouraging, especially from the Northeast market.
  • International and business travel remains slow at the moment.
  • Some hotels have higher occupancy in Q1 due to postponements.
  • Special hotel promotion for short term bookings (Miami Meetings Shine Promotion)-offers can be viewed on our website.
  • MBCC had implemented new safety guidelines.

Speakers included Rolando Aedo, CDME, Chief Operating Officer of the GMCVB, Sonia Fong, Vice President of Sales GMCVB; Freddie Peterson, General Manager at the Miami Beach Convention Center; Blake Crawford, Director of Sales & Marketing Royal Palm South Beach Miami; Heather Shaw, Assistant Director of the Tourism & Culture Development Department of Miami Beach, as well as other industry experts.

Tourism is Greater Miami & Beaches’ number one industry so the GMCVB is proud to have brought together leaders of key agencies together to give them an opportunity to give the industry an opportunity to share best safety practices, proactive efforts to reopen, and more. Working hand-in-hand with local, regional and state officials, the GMCVB will continue to update industry representatives on the state of the crisis.
