ASAE and the Singapore Exhibition and Convention Bureau (SECB) recently launched a new toolkit to empower associations’ global initiatives. The Associations’ Guide to Going Global includes an assessment of geopolitical and economic trends and steps for associations to consider when working internationally.

The toolkit is based on a 2023 ASAE Global Operations Survey sent to nearly 5,000 respondents. The survey confirmed that associations maintain widely distributed global operations. Among U.S.-based respondents, two-thirds are operating internationally and, of those, half are looking to expand their international operations. Among the U.S.-based associations surveyed, 50 percent reported operating in five of the world’s regions, and 43 percent of respondents reported operating in a sixth region.

“U.S.-based associations operating globally play a pivotal role in empowering workers, stimulating global economies and advancing industries and professions,” said ASAE President and CEO Michelle Mason, FASAE, CAE. “By sharing best practices, setting standards and fostering professional development, these associations enhance skills and knowledge-sharing across borders, driving innovation and growth worldwide. By releasing this toolkit, ASAE and its strategic partner SECB strive to help associations understand macro geopolitical and economic trends, learn from other associations already working internationally, and develop a plan for crafting their own global strategies.”

ASAE and SECB, a part of the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and the lead government agency for business events in Singapore, renewed their strategic partnership earlier this year, and are committed to working together to strengthen the global association community and ensure a robust business events industry in Asia and around the world.
