Following 16 years of service with the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau and 45 years in the industry, Tradeshow Customer Relations Senior Manager Wayne Chappell will retire July 31. “Wayne is the best salesperson out of a trade show booth that I have ever known,” said Greg Ortale, GHCVB President and CEO. “He is loved and respected by customers, has an encyclopedic memory of trade show groups and their planners, and has mentored our younger sales associates. He is absolutely committed to professionalism and Houston.”

During his time in Houston, Chappell helped launch the trade show program in Houston and led the effort to book two industry events: Meeting Planners International (MPI) in February 2008 and the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) in December 2013.

In addition to his time at the GHCVB, Chappell dedicated more than 45 years to the travel and tourism industry in various roles with four other major city CVBs. In particular, Chappell was instrumental in helping to relaunch the Baltimore Convention and Visitors Bureau, and also served at the CVB in Kansas City. He also is a past chair of the Destination Marketing Association International.
