The island paradise of Fiji, known for its incredible scenery and warm, welcoming people, will be open to visitors once again starting this December. After nearly two years of being closed to the outside world, Fiji is more than ready to safely welcome its travelers back. The 333 islands are as beautiful as ever, brimming with idyllic turquoise waters, soft white sand beaches, and the vibrant “Bula Spirit” for which Fiji is known.

This official government announcement comes on the heels of Fiji reaching its goal of 80% vaccination of the eligible population with both doses. While travel restrictions will be lifted in December, entry requirements will remain in place. These include being a fully vaccinated traveler, providing a negative RT-PCR test taken 72 hours prior to departure from home country, taking a rapid test 48 hours after arriving to your resort, and fulfilling any obligation to take an additional test prior to returning back home, based on individual home country requirements. Unvaccinated children under the age of 18 will be able to travel to Fiji accompanied by a vaccinated adult. Travel insurance, as always, is highly recommended.  For more information on travel requirements, please visit www.fiji.travel.

“We are ecstatic that Fiji will open its borders to international visitors by the end of the year,” says Tourism Fiji’s CEO Brent Hill. “This is the moment we have been planning for nearly two years now and I can assure the world that Fiji is safe and ready to welcome travelers back. The islands are just as beautiful – if not more beautiful – than ever and the locals just as warm and friendly. Fiji is the vacation the world needs and deserves right now, and we can finally offer that again starting December.”

Travelers and advisors can book in confidence with the  Care Fiji Commitment, where travelers can stay in certified resorts, use certified transportation and experiences, and be assured that all tourism businesses they come in to contact with have a 100% vaccinated staff. The Care Fiji Commitment is a World Health Organization-approved program that has been recognized by the World Travel and Tourism Council who declared Fiji as a certified “Safe Travels” destination. Travelers can fly direct from the U.S. to Fiji safely with Fiji Airways, who have been awarded the Apex Diamond certification for safety and the Skytrax 5-star COVID19 Airline safety rating.

“We are excited to be working closely with our travel advisors, wholesalers and other trade partners to get the word out to your travelers that Fiji is open for bookings again,” says Ruth Daly, regional director for North America. “Everyone needs a relaxing, inspiring Fiji vacation and we look forward to welcoming guests back in time for the holidays.”

The country’s reopening will be well-timed to the launch of Tourism Fiji’s new Matai program for Fiji specialists, expected to debut by the end of the year. For more information on Fiji ‘s Matai Program, please visit www.matai.fiji.travel.
