Westin Grand Cayman Nears Renovation Debut

May 25, 2017

The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa is putting the finishing touches on the second phase of a property-wide renovation that will debut distinctive enhancements to all guest rooms and suites and adjacent corridors. The project follows the introduction of a fresh new contemporary aesthetic and enriched guest experience within public spaces across the award-winning resort, which occupies eight acres along the widest and most expansive portion of the famed Seven Mile Beach. The second phase of the $50 million project, which wraps up in September 2017, will be completed in time for travelers to enjoy for the peak 2017–2018 Caribbean travel season.

Garcia Stromberg of GS4 Studios of West Palm Beach, Florida, drew inspiration from the sights, smells, tastes, sounds, and peace and serenity of the beachfront location to set the framework for the top-to-bottom enhancement. Westin Grand Cayman’s redesigned public spaces and accommodations feature natural materials used in harmony with the landscape creating an authentic sense of place for guests. While contemporary touches are showcased throughout the newly enhanced resort, the design team paid special attention to preserving the property’s Caribbean sensibility.

All of Westin Grand Cayman’s 343 luxe accommodations, ranging from Island View Rooms sized at 380 sf to its expansive Presidential Suite and Governor’s Suite, both offering 3,000 sf of indoor and outdoor living space with private beachfront verandas, received a floor-to-ceiling transformation with colors, textures and materials inspired by the surrounding environment. The calming, neutral color palette of blues and beiges was inspired by the natural elements of water, sky and earth, creating a seamless flow between interiors and the environment outside. Living spaces and bathrooms have been fully updated and modernized with details such as refreshed wood flooring, state-of-the-art appliances and fixtures and glass shower doors, making accommodations more contemporary and welcoming for travelers.

Highlights from the first phase of the renovation include a completely redesigned, open and inviting lobby area, elevating the sense of arrival for guests. Featuring a bright, neutral color palette, natural, linear sand-tone wood plank flooring, organic columns, and planes of soft, undulating curves on the ceiling above, the design conjures images of the ocean waves, while immediately directing attention to the panoramic views of the azure Caribbean Sea. Westin Grand Cayman’s new lobby also serves as a chic location to meet for deliciously refreshing cocktails, including both classic and inventive martinis, with the redesign of the resort’s Catboat lobby bar.

The resort’s freshwater swimming pool, long considered the largest on Grand Cayman, was redesigned with a restyled swim-up bar that allows guests to sip refreshing Caribbean cocktails while taking in breathtaking views of Seven Mile Beach. Elsewhere, the new Cayman Coffee Exchange now offers light, on-the-go snacks and refreshments, and the resort’s fitness center and retail outlets have been enhanced with modern designs married with Caribbean flair.

The resort features every corporate meeting amenity. The grounds are home to the island’s largest fresh water swimming pool, the full-service Hibiscus Spa, exhilarating water sports, and more than 9,000 sf of indoor and 40,000 sf of outdoor event space for memorable corporate incentive programs.
