Shelborne Wyndham Grand South Beach Reopens

September 26, 2014

Shelborne Wyndham Grand South BeachThe Shelborne, one of South Beach’s most historic heritage properties, reopened September 24 as Shelborne Wyndham Grand South Beach following a $90 million restoration and renovation.

The Shelborne was designed by art deco architect Igor Polevitsky in 1940 and updated in the 1950s by Morris Lapidus. Its original owners, the Galbut family of Miami, partnered with Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos and Paul Kanavos of Flag Luxury Group, to implement a renovation that has restored the Shelborne’s original grandeur.

The Shelborne Wyndham Grand features more than 15,000 sf of expansive event areas that include several meeting rooms, an executive boardroom, breakout rooms, a grand ballroom and extensive indoor and outdoor flexible space.

The hotel’s Morimoto South Beach, an 180-seat indoor and outdoor restaurant from award-winning chef Masaharu Morimoto, will expertly curate the resort’s comprehensive food and beverage programs including room service, catering and future dining establishments. The 1940s-inspired lobby has been restored as the Drawing Room Bar & Lounge, which will transform into a vibrant bar scene at night.

Located oceanfront in the heart of South Beach’s Art Deco District, Shelborne Wyndham Grand is situated within walking distance to Lincoln Road and Ocean Drive. The elegant pool and lounge area, which features inviting cabanas, leads right up to the boardwalk and a long stretch of white-sand beach. In honoring its heritage and reviving its history with a refined, contemporary appeal, the Shelborne Wyndham Grand team has primed the property to be an incomparable South Beach destination.
