‘March Meeting Planner Madness’ Tourney Begins!

Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) invites meeting planners to vote on what drives meeting planners the most mad in their very own 2015 March Meeting Planning Madness Tournament, according to Managing Director of DMAI’s empowerMINT initiative Christine “Shimo” Shimasaki.

“Being a meeting professional is one of the greatest professions, according to US News & World Report which ranked Meeting, Convention & Event Planner 57th on their list of 100 best jobs of 2015,” said Shimasaki. “But, we know the job has moments of sheer, indescribable madness as well.”

Meeting planners face significant and maddening challenges such as working with stakeholders who think they are planners to cold calls and inadequate responses to their RFPs. During a time when the U.S. is caught up with the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship, DMAI will host a tournament just for meeting planners.

Meeting planners helped DMAI narrow down the list to the “Not-So-Sweet-Sixteen” things that drive meeting planners mad, and the March Meeting Planner Madness tournament is divided up into four voting regions to include:

1. On the Job
2.  Salespeople
3. Who to Trust
4. The Find

Voting begins March 16. The voting schedule is:

• Round 1: March 16-22
• Round 2: March 23-26
• Round 3: March 27-31
• Round 4: April 1-3
• Madness Champion Announced: April 6

Voters need an active email address to participate and be invited back to vote in subsequent rounds.
