JetBlue Pilots Free Meal Vouchers And Upgrades For Delayed Frequent Flyers

July 18, 2019

New York City-based air carrier JetBlue Airways is testing a new system to automatically reward its Mosaic frequent flyers with free meal vouchers and seat upgrades if a flight is delayed for over two hours.

An internal message obtained by paxex.aero shared that the new program, which started earlier this month, would give “the option to receive a meal voucher and an [upgraded] Even More Space seat” to Mosaic members “if a flight has a posted delay of two hours or more.”

As of this weekend, the program is also officially live. JetBlue frequent frequent flyers started receiving emails from Don Uselmann, Vice President, Loyalty saying “In the unlikely event that your JetBlue-operated flight encounters a posted delay of two hours or more, you may opt to receive a same-day meal voucher and an Even More Space seat. All you need to do is identify yourself to a JetBlue crewmember at the airport to receive this benefit.” A copy of the email was posted to Flyertalk, a message board popular with frequent travelers and loyalty buffs.

Mosaic status is the highest level of frequent flyer elite status that a passenger can earn at JetBlue. To reach that milestone, passengers need to earn 15,000 flight points in JetBlue’s system each year, which equates to between $3,000 and $5,000 in airline spend. In addition to the delay vouchers, Mosaic members also enjoy free checked bags, free onboard drinks, waived change and cancellation fees and a variety of other perks. Other airlines including American, Delta and United offer similar perks for top tier frequent flyers, but none of them reward vouchers and upgrades automatically after delays.
