“We are excited to celebrate this momentous occasion at our property in such an extraordinary way,” said Pete Demay, General Manager of the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile Hotel. “As a true Chicago landmark, we aim to carry on the historic legacy of the hotel and provide a unique, culture filled experience for all. With this special offer, we invite guests to join us in commemorating this major milestone for the Intercontinental Chicago.”
Constructed in 1929, the 42-story building served as one of the most exclusive luxury men’s clubs in the city at the time. The exotic gold dome situated on the top of the building was originally built as a docking port for Dirigibles (otherwise known as Zeppelins or Blimps). In 1944, the building transformed into the “Continental Hotel and Town Club.” A second tower was erected just north along Grand Avenue in 1961 and was named The Grand Tower. In 1989, a quarter-billion-dollar transformation took the property and turned it into InterContinental Chicago Hotel, one of the city’s most luxurious Magnificent Mile properties. Using photography from the 1930s, rooms were replicated down to the smallest of details, from the draperies to the carpets and the restoration of murals.Nine decades after opening, InterContinental Chicago Hotel maintains the grandeur of the Roaring Twenties. The hotel’s expansive conference halls feature two original marble lions, Spanish Majolica tiles, and a terra-cotta fountain.
With 792 guest rooms and suites, InterContinental Chicago Hotel is considered to be one of the most prestigious hotels in downtown Chicago. The venue is home to two fine dining restaurants; Michael Jordan Steak House featuring delicious modern American cuisine, and ENO, an eclectic wine lounge that serves small bites, cheese and chocolate. The hotel is also home to the oldest pool in Chicago which showcases classic architecture from the ’20s and has been carefully restored to maintain its 1929 elegance. The pool includes a hand carved terracotta fountain of Neptune as well as hand-painted Spanish tiles lining the walls, and marble pillars. Light flows in from elegant stained-glass windows while ornate terracotta decorates the ceiling to offer guests the ultimate high-class Gatsby-era experience.
