Memphis Convention Center Project Clears Final Hurdle

As reported in The Daily Memphian, a long-planned modernization and expansion of the 44-year-old Memphis Cook Convention Center is in the clear after approval of a $163.5 million construction contract on Wednesday, Nov. 28th. The contract with W.G. Yates & Sons Construction of Philadelphia, Mississippi, was unanimously approved by the convention center board.

The vote came after city officials said there are ample funds to pay for construction and about $25 million in soft costs such as fixtures, furnishings and professional fees and a $1 million art allowance.
