ASAE Board Hears Updates on New Initiatives, Approves FY 18 Budget

August 14, 2017

Before the 2017 ASAE Annual Meeting & Exposition, August 12-15, in Toronto, the ASAE Board received updates on ASAE’s new event Xperience Design Project (XDP), expansion of ASAE Learning Online, updates on the ASAE Foundation research agenda, and a new platform for risk management for associations. The board passed the budget for Fiscal Year 2018 (FY 18).

ASAE staff talked about the strategic direction of XDP and lessons learned. Staff provided updates on several new initiatives. With ASAE Learning Online, ASAE will introduce group accounts that will give associations the ability to form teams within the system, and there will be new multi-course learning pathways and expanding to nearly 300 course offerings in FY 18.

Today, ASAE will launch a new platform called ASAE Insurance Source, which will help associations manage their operational and governance risks.

The ASAE Foundation has new organizational assessments that will provide associations the opportunity to look at their global maturity and technology readiness within the AssociaMetrics platform. They also have a new research initiative called, ASAE ForesightWorks. It will examine trends impacting associations and provide tools and resources to help organizations understand the implications as well as integrate key aspects into their work.

“ASAE continues to push the envelope on learning and meeting innovation, strategically developing new products and services that benefit our members and the association industry, and raising the visibility for how associations impact their communities,” said ASAE Chair Scott D. Wiley, FASAE, CAE, president and CEO of The Ohio Society of CPAs.

One of the new projects in early 2018 is a pilot Innovation Lab in collaboration with ASAE corporate partner Visit Salt Lake. It will be a two-day event in Salt Lake City in conjunction with the Sundance Film Festival. Three associations will bring teams, of up to six people each, to work on a challenge using design thinking techniques. The groups will generate and evaluate potential solutions and leave with a prototype.

“The ASAE Foundation research agenda continues to be robust and examine important trends effecting our community. From an advocacy perspective, ASAE’s team has done a tremendous job of educating policymakers on tax reform, state discriminatory legislation, travel issues, the overtime rule, and more,” said Matthew R. Shay, CAE, president and CEO at the National Retail Federation, and incoming chair of the ASAE Board.
