More Than 6,100 Flights Delayed Across The US Over Thunderstorms In The Northeast

The Northeast is being hit with heavy rain, causing a flurry of flight delays and cancellations during a busy travel weekend ahead of Labor Day and back-to-school season.

As of 12:15 a.m. ET Friday, 6,133 flights within, into or out of the United States had been delayed and 742 cancelled, according to flight-tracking website FlightAware.

“We are experiencing some delays for flights to and from the Northeast tonight due to weather in the region,” Southwest spokesperson Dan Landson said in a statement to USA TODAY Thursday. “We appreciate our Customers’ patience as we work to get them to their destinations as Safely and quickly as possible.”

Southwest had the most disruption, with 124 flights cancelled and 775 delayed.
